These delicately carved Irish harp earrings feature a piece of walnut, recycled from musical instruments constructed by a local luthier. As a musician myself, I take enormous satisfaction in creating a pair of earrings whose inherent wood has previously featured in a beautiful hand-made harp. Also, part of walnut’s attractiveness is its durability and ability to stand the test of time and of course the beauty of its grain and color.
To the ancient Celts, Walnut was considered a sacred tree that held many healing properties. Associated with living in the present and what we now call mindfulness, it also activates wisdom and clarity.
The harp has been the emblem of Ireland since medieval times. Wandering minstrels used to travel the country playing the harp, keeping Ireland’s legends alive.
Today, a representation of the traditional harp is to be found on the Presidential Seal and on many official documents, on passports, on the flag of Leinster (but not the national flag), on Irish euro coins and as a logo for a number of prominent state-supported organizations such as the National University of Ireland.
There are a number of names for the Irish harp. It is also known as the Celtic harp, the Gaelic harp, the clàrsach (in Scotland) or the cláirseach (in the modern Irish language).
These unique Irish harp earrings are the perfect gift for anyone with Irish heritage or for someone who resonates with the Celtic myths and traditions of the natural world. Light and elegant they are suitable for both everyday wear and for that special occasion!
